What is a cataract?
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens that develops gradually, usually with age, and causes blurry vision, glare sensitivity, and faded colours. It's one of the most common, and most treatable, causes of vision loss.
Surgical options
Cataract surgery has evolved from Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) to modern topical Micro Phacoemulsification, which uses a smaller incision and typically allows faster visual recovery. Intraocular lens (IOL) options include rigid lenses, three-piece and single-piece foldable lenses, and toric or multifocal lenses. The right technique and lens choice depend on the individual eye and the patient's visual needs, assessed during a pre-surgical evaluation.
